TOM WATSON
A
tremendously dynamic and creative recreation facility
management professional, Tom Watson is Serious
About Fun. His background in professional
sports, Masters Degree in Human Leisure Development
and 3 decades of upper level management experience
has enabled Tom to become a respected leader in the
recreation industry.. In addition to successfully
managing and consulting at an increasing variety of
municipal recreation departments and privately operated
facilities throughout Western Canada, Tom is a popular,
dynamic and engaging public and motivational speaker.
One of Tom's first consulting projects set the successful
tone for his entire career as a progressive leader
in recreation facility management. Working with the
City of Surrey, Tom was instrumental in the hugely
successful design/build/operation phase of the Surrey
Sport and Leisure Complex. During Tom's tenure at
this facility, McIntyre and Mustel Research Ltd. concluded
that user satisfaction was the highest they had ever
found in a recreation facility. In recent years, he
has been leading Rec Ex in its winning track record
of successfully managing municipal facilities in Alberta
and throughout BC's North Okanagan, Fraser Valley
and Sunshine Coast regions.
Tom is versed in all aspects of facility management,
having completed specific training in arena, aquatic
and dry-land facility management and operation. In
addition to his Masters degree, Tom has also earned
diplomas in Fitness, Nutrition and Marketing, and
is a graduate of the BCRPA Leisure Development Course.
He is an experienced coach, a sought-after speaker,
a creative consultant, and a positive team organizer.
Tom's vibrant, positive approach to working with members
of municipal administrations, staff and the public
has gained him recognition as a superb recreation
facility administrator and industry leader.

Maria Halvorson
Manager of Corporate Services
Since 2003, Maria Halvorson has been providing the
Recreation Excellence team and its growing community
of clients with exceptional administrative support.
As Manager of Corporate Services for RecEx, Maria
is responsible for report development and research
coordination, as well as for establishing and implementing
company policies, corporate planning initiatives,
advertising and marketing activities, donations, staff
recognition programs, and much more. Maria also represents
Recreation Excellence at many provincial and national
conferences and events, bringing her classic "Serious
About Fun" attitude!
In addition to her years with RecEx, Maria has worked
in the field of Parks and Recreation for more than
18 years, including close to a decade as the Office/Systems
Coordinator for the BC Recreation and Parks Association,
where she coordinated a busy office in providing a
wide array of services to a membership of 4,000.
